How to configure Thunderbird for Office 365 mail ?

O365 does not support legacy protocols like IMAP and POP3 as they are prone to phishing and other types attacks. In order to make clients like Thunderbird work, we need to configure them to use OAUTH2 mechanism of authentication. Steps are given below.

  • Open Thunderbird. Click "Account Actions" and "Add Mail Account"
  • Enter your information as in the picture. DO NOT enter your password.

Click Continue, and Thunderbird should display this information:

Select IMAP and click "Configure Manually"

Make the highlighted changes as  below:

 Click "Re-test"

If there is no error, please click on "Done" and thunderbird is now ready.
