Frequently Asked Question
Installation of MS Teams
1. Download Microsoft Teams
- Go to the https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-teams/download-app
- Click Download for desktop and choose the Windows version.
- Save the setup file to your computer.
2. Install Microsoft Teams
- Locate the downloaded file (e.g., Teams_windows_x64.exe) in your Downloads folder.
- Double-click the file to run the installer.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
3. Sign In with Your Work Account
Note: Please select ‘Work or School Account’ when prompted for the account type. This is important – there seems to be a bug or something that considers the ‘work’ account as ‘Personal’, if you declare it as Personal. If this happens, you won’t see your organization/colleagues on Teams after setup.
- Once installed, open Microsoft Teams.
- Sign in with your work or school account (e.g., yourname@yourorganization.com).
- Enter your password and complete any multi-factor authentication (if required).
4. Configure Teams for Your Work Account
- Set Up Notifications:
- Click your profile picture (top-right corner).
- Select Settings > Notifications to customize how you receive alerts.
- Click Teams in the left navigation bar.
- Join existing teams or create a new one by clicking Join or create a team.
- If your organization uses Office 365, Teams will integrate with apps like Outlook, SharePoint, and OneDrive.
- Set Status:
- Use the status menu (top-right) to indicate your availability (e.g., Available, Busy, Do Not Disturb).
5. Install Additional Apps or Integrations (Optional)
- Go to Apps in the left sidebar to add tools like Trello, Asana, or your organization-specific apps.
6. Test and Start Using Teams
- Test Audio/Video:
- Go to Settings > Devices to test your microphone, speaker, and camera.
- Start a Meeting:
- Click Calendar > Meet now to host or join a meeting.
- Invite Team Members:
- Use the Teams section to invite colleagues by email.
Troubleshooting Tips
- Cannot Sign In: Ensure your account credentials are correct and check with your IT administrator if access is blocked.
- Slow Performance: Close other apps to free up system resources or check for updates to improve functionality.
- Account Configuration Issues: Contact your IT department if your work account needs additional permissions.
